Madonna, Genesis and Metallica star in first bio diesel powered concert

Wembley was rocked on Saturday, June 7th, by some of the greatest artists in the world today. The aim of the concert was to raise awareness of global warming, and also provide some helpful advice on how to reduce C02 emissions.

Two companies had banded together, Power Logistics Ltd from Chippenham and Bio Tech Oils UK Ltd from Wales, to make this historic event the world’s first totally green powered concert. All of the stage lighting, sound, BBC outside broadcast cameras and satellite uplinks were powered by bio diesel.

Bio-diesel, which is derived from used cooking oil, is a sustainable, cleaner burning alternative to fossil-diesel. The benefits of using the greener fuel are reduction of carbon emissions by 80%, smoother engine performance and lower costs. Bio Tech Oils UK currently supply bio-diesel to haulage companies and fuel distributors across the UK, which they blend with fossil diesel. This week bio-diesel supplied by Bio Tech Oils UK powered the Live Earth Concert, a unique event and a source of great pride and prestige to the company.

Bio Tech Oils UK was among the first companies to bring bio-diesel to Wales on a commercial basis, and the company has made 12 million litres of B5 to date.

New government legislation will be introduced to support the bio-diesel industry. The Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation is a form of carbon tax that will impose fines on the big fuel refiners that fail to include a set percentage of bio-diesel in their fossil fuel. This green tax is long overdue for our industry, which has many barriers to entry and higher taxes than other countries in the EU.

According to Bio Tech Oils, bio-diesel is the new kid on the block, with engine manufacturers disallowing the use of 100 percent bio-diesel under warranty, even though there is no loss of efficiency. Added to this is the heavy burden of HMG tax on producing the green fuel, which Bio Tech argues is the greatest issue that needs to change in the UK.
"Europe is leading the way in green fuel policies. The German government banished tax on bio-diesel in 2000 and since then the production output has increased dramatically. If we want to see a reduction in carbon emissions, the government needs to do more NOW to support UK bio-diesel production. If we had zero tax on its product this would aid and attract investment to the industry overall and the ultimate winner would be your planet."
